Information on VYSL game canceling policy due to inclement weather:
VYSL uses the following policy for canceling games due to inclement weather - On Saturday morning if games are cancelled due to weather, we will post a notice on the website and on our Facebook page by 8:00am. This means that ALL games will be canceled for that day. We will also coordinate with Yankton Soccer to make the decision to cancel games played in or with Yankton. This information will also be posted on the website and Facebook. If time permitted we will call, text, or email the coaches... especially for the 9:00 games.
If a game has already started then it is up to the referee(s) to stop games due to lightning. If lightning is seen, said referee(s) will stop the game and instruct all attendees to go to a covered shelter or vehicle for 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes has elapsed there is no more lightning then the games will resume. If however after the first 15 minutes there is continued lightning the game will be cancelled. PLEASE NOTE- games scheduled after said game may still be played if the lightning has passed. We will monitor each game at the time it is played. We know some teams will travel and sometimes may not get a game started or completed, but that's the nature of South Dakota weather.
Soccer is played in the rain, but not in lightning, snow, or exceptionally cold weather (sometimes when it's cold we will play upper division games but not lower division games).
High school games are not affected by this policy - those are cancelled by the leagues and coaches involved.
Thanks -- VYSL Board
Any coaches or any adult that will have over one hour of contact with the kids should fill out the South Dakota State Soccer Association Disclosure Statement for Certification Form.
